Requirements for traveling to Oahu

There are two ways to enter Oahu:

  1. Quarantine: choose not to take a COVID-19 test prior to departure and complete the mandatory 10-day self-quarantine
  2. Bypass quarantine by taking a pre-travel test
  • The test must be from a state-approved testing provider.
  • The test must be administered no more than 72 hours prior to the scheduled departure time of the final leg to Hawaii.
  • For trans-pacific travel, test results must be received prior to flight departure.

All travelers must create an account on the State of Hawaii’s Safe Travels website. You will find information on the steps you need to take to bypass quarantine on this page.

Hawaii Travel without Quarantine

You’re able to enter Hawaii without having to quarantine if you have a negative COVID-19 test result.
Guidelines:

  • Your COVID-19 test must be performed by a Hawaii state-approved test provider.
  • You must receive your negative test result before boarding your final flight to Hawaii.
  • Every individual 5 years of age or older will need to take a COVID-19 test.
  • Children 4 years of age and younger (on the date of your flight) are exempt from testing and quarantine.

10-day quarantine

If you do not have a negative COVID-19 test result you must self-quarantine for 10 days once you land in Hawaii. Learn more

Schedule a COVID-19 test

Do this as soon as your flight is booked.

Schedule a COVID-19 test

Do this as soon as your flight is booked.

Make an appointment with a Hawaii state-approved provider in your area as soon as possible, as appointments often fill up quickly.

Confirm the turnaround time for test results as well as the test type (FDA-approved NAAT test processed by a CLIA-certified laboratory) with the test provider. Once confirmed, schedule your appointment for no more than 72 hours before your scheduled flight departure time. If you prefer to test at home, there are several at-home, mail-in test kit options.

Safe Travels is a website managed by the State of Hawaii that helps you document and manage your Hawaii travel and health information. Create an account (or sign in) and add trip information for each leg of your trip. You’ll need your flight and lodging information to complete the process.

Each traveler 18 years or older will need to create their own account. Minors can be added to an adult’s account.

Get pre-cleared prior to departure

Do this at a check-in counter or at the gate XX min. before departure.

This is an optional step, but one that will help you avoid waiting in line when you arrive in Hawaii. From your departure airport, up to XX min. prior to boarding, you’re able to get pre-cleared during check-in or at the gate. A Hawaiian Airlines Guest Services Agent will verify your documents and screen your QR code. Once screened, you’ll be provided a wristband to indicate that you do not need to be screened or quarantined upon arrival in Hawaii.

Returning to Los Angeles

Los Angeles County requires all non-essential travelers entering the County from another state of country and are not fully vaccinated to quarantine and self-monitor following the below guidelines:

  • Quarantine for 7 full days after travel if they get tested and get a negative COVID-19 viral test (swab or saliva) result from a specimen collected 3-5 days after their arrival.
  • Quarantine for 10 full days after travel if they did not get tested with a COVID-19 viral test after their arrival.
  • For 14 days after their arrival, continue to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19, and avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness. They must isolate and should get tested if symptoms develop.

For more information, visit the Los Angeles County website and the State of California website.
